A perfectly classic Unity corporation, existing alongside a half-dozen others, Pynx serves as a conduit for trade and communication between The Threads and external systems via the Weak Point. Established under the auspices of Unity to ensure controlled and secure interstellar commerce, the Consortium operates a vast network of trade routes, customs stations, and diplomatic outposts. Their fleet of advanced freighters and security vessels ensures the smooth transit of goods, information, and personnel.

 

Asides from the transport of goods and persons, a Unity corporation has widely varying functions in any system it operates in.

• Trade Regulation: Implements tariffs, trade agreements, and quality control to maintain economic stability.

• Security Division: Protects trade routes from piracy and unauthorized access.  The military wing, better trained, armed and equipped, is generally deployed in situations that might escalate up to the point that Unity will intervene, which is in no-one's interest.

  
  
   

• Diplomatic Corps: Manages relations with foreign entities, negotiating treaties and resolving disputes.

• Research and Development: Innovates in logistics and communication technologies to enhance trade efficiency.

The Pynx also have a specific interest in the research, discovery, excavation, preservation and sale of ancient and modern cultural artefacts.  Many Fringe Worlds have hundreds of years of existence, so there is plenty to be found.  It is rumoured that a specialised division of Pynx is concerned with alien civilisations, and there are naturally claims that they have found some here and there, but are covering it up.

Pynx's motto, which is not without deliberate irony : "Our Past enriches us".  There is also the unofficial slogan of the military wing : "We ain't green, we're pynx".
