The Argo

The Argo is a two century old freighter, whose robust design has ensured it is still exploitable, if by now a little outdated.

It is the home to the Argonauts, one of the oldest surviving groups of Ostrakoï, who were active long before the Dynasts put the kudos system into swing.  The captains' logs from earlier vessels were not all preserved, but the Argonauts surely stretch back to around -110.

Their fortunes have waxed and waned over the decades, and at the present time at least, they are down to the single, aging vessel that has long been their traditional home.   

To fit their needs, the Argonauts have transformed the majority of the cargo space into crew quarters.  The ship can comfortably carry a complement of twenty five, and four times that at a pinch, and needs five crew to second the onboard AI and maintain the key systems.  It is not fitted with offensive weapons, but does carry a wide array of passive and active defensive measures, to ensure it is no easy target.  The powerful engine array, robust hull and system redundancies, coupled with its modest size, means that the Argo can operate in the atmosphere of even the most hostile worlds.

The Argo has a single docking bay, in which it carries a modified eight-seat shuttle, including its two crew.  The Doxa is a heavily armed variant, mainly use for in-atmosphere fire support, but also capable of providing offensive capability out among the stars.

Many of these could be - as they indeed were - from minor "kingdoms" that the move towards Dynasties gradually led to be politically undesirable.  Indeed I mentioned that ostracism was often political.
