Background :

Daughter of the Dynast of Laconia and his wife Leda, Castor is twin sister (or half-sister, depending on what you believe) to another crew member of the Argo, Pollux.  They are collectively known as the Gemini.  Both were born aboard a spaceship, after the Dynast and his family - including his pregnant wife - made a bold trip, for reasons known only to themselves, to observe up close the Olympos disk itself.  It is said that this is why both feel so at home among the stars.

The two are absolutely inseparable.  Castor is the more reasonable and reasoning of the two, Pollux much quicker to flare.  The city of Sparta, capital of the planet Laconia, has a custom which requires all those at the cusp of adult life to leave its walls for five years, with only the clothes on their back and a wooden club, and fend entirely for themselves.  They are considered as ostracised, denied the safety of the  civilised world and the protection of law.  Only after completing this initiation can they return as full members of the community; the death toll is considerable.

Castor and Pollux figured, in for a drakhma, in for a talent.  If they were ostracised, they might as well act like it.  After a series of hair-raising adventures, they ended up signing on with the crew of the Argo.

As it turns out, two rivals of theirs, Lyncea and Ida, had done exactly the same thing...sparks are likely to fly...
